About the book
“I must preface everything you are about to read with the indisputable fact that I am proud of the place where I was raised.”
Ruthenna loved her neighborhood but longed for more. At age 16, awards and college applications were a path beyond Liberty Hill.
But on April 10th, Ruthenna’s mother was in a car accident. The car flipped three times and she was thrown from the hatchback. Her mother survived but her ‘Mama’ was gone. With her brother in jail, Ruthenna became the primary caregiver for her grandfather with cancer and a mother who barely knew her name. The path off The Hill was not so clear anymore. She was ready to settle for survival until a glimmer of hope illuminated a new track.
